Construction on the Mazagon airport which had been put on a hold for a while after the airport was denied the right to occupy land under the Nepali Army’s protection of Shuklaphanta National Park, has now resumed

The construction work of Mazagon airport at Mahendranagar in Kanchanpur has started. The construction work, which was stopped for some time, resumed after the airport did not get the right of occupancy of the land under the Nepali Army for the protection of Shuklaphanta National Park.

The necessary process for land tenure has already started. Now there is no problem with the construction work. The Ministry is in the process of making a decision for the acquisition of the land. Now the length of the airport is about 1000 meters. A runway is being constructed in that area. The length of the airport reaches 1,525 meters when combined with Ratna Watika and the land occupied by the army.

An airport is necessary for easy access to the capital, as a concrete bridge is being constructed on the Mahakali River in Kanchanpur and a dry port is being constructed at Dodhara Chandni.

The airport is being constructed with the participation of 15 percent of Bhimdatta Municipality, 10 percent of Dodhara Chandni Municipality, 25 percent of the Sudurpaschim Province Government, and 50 percent of the Civil Aviation Authority. An agreement has been signed with Kancharam/KS/Uma & Company for Rs 45 crore 66 lakhs to be able to build within three years.

In the first phase, along with the runway, taxiway, and apron work will be done. According to the project, an access road will be constructed from the terminal building in the second phase. The airport, which was in operation from 2034 to 2057, was closed due to security reasons during the crisis.

“The construction work started after the land acquisition agreement was reached. There has been a verbal agreement to get the land, now the construction work has started again. The park administration and the Nepalese army have agreed not to stop the work." Said Meenraj Ojha, project head of Mazagon Airport.

“The construction of the airport should be completed on time as there is a need for an airport. It has been a long time since we raised the voice that the airport should come into operation. This will make it easier for tourists from third countries coming through the Gaddachouki border." Said Janga Bahadur Malla, the former president of the Kanchanpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

“After meeting with the Prime Minister, we have drawn attention to the fact that the airport and dry port should be built soon", he added._Rss
