In a heartwarming display of cultural preservation and generational bonding, the Pitlek Deurali Community "Homestay" in Waling (Syangja) recently hosted an enchanting program under the protective umbrella of Maruni dance. On the 25th of December, villagers, including elderly members and their young grandchildren, took the stage, adorned in traditional Gurung community costumes, to present various cultural dances to their esteemed guests.

Bhupen Gurung, the president of Gharbas (homestay), expressed pride in the community's efforts to inspire the new generation to safeguard their language and culture. Emphasizing the importance of passing down traditions, he mentioned the training provided to teach Maruni and Khayali dances, popular in the Gurung community, along with the associated musical instruments.

Notably, the community's commitment to preserving culture extends beyond mere performances. The elderly actively involve their grandchildren, such as Naina Bahadur Gurung, aged four and twenty, and Bou Bahadur Gurung, 71, who participated in teaching Maruni, Khayali, and musical instruments.

Tilak Gurung, the Gharbas secretary, stressed the significance of guests showcasing their own original art and culture, believing it to be instrumental in preserving the community's heritage. The involvement of grandparents, grandmothers, and grandchildren on the same stage, dancing and singing, created a charming and exciting atmosphere for the guests.

Seventy-one-year-old Bau Bahadur Gurung, a custodian of traditional skills, underlined the imperative nature of passing down ancestral knowledge to prevent the potential disappearance of their culture. Rozina Rana, a participant, expressed pride in learning and performing alongside her grandparents, highlighting the sense of cultural identity this experience bestowed upon her.
