The "Banking on Protected Areas" initiative is all about encouraging tourism in places that are protected, like national parks or nature reserves. This helps these areas recover economically from the effects of the pandemic, tackle long-standing development issues, and protect the plants and animals living there.
“Nepal has done a great job putting the country back on the conservation map. This success can be a strong economic pillar if we develop sustainable tourism, bringing everyone together.” Said Dr. Ghana Shyam Gurung, WWF Nepal's Country Representative.

Tourism in protected areas triggers economic activities, and as these activities expand, growing income and expenditure increase the demand for goods and services. In Nepal, they're particularly focused on saving tigers because it's good for both the environment and the country's development.

Biodiversity, or the richness of life in an area, is incredibly valuable because it gives us essential resources for life, such as food, fresh air, and clean water. It also plays a crucial role in helping us adapt to challenges like climate change and diseases. It fuels economic activities like tourism, contributing to local and global economies.
