Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Prem Bahadur Ale has directed The Narayanhiti Durbar Museum and the Republic Monument Management and Steering Committee has not given permission from the Kathmandu Municipal Corporation to add structures inside the palace.
Minister Ale summoned Executive Director of Durbar Museum Bhesnarayan Dahal to the Ministry today and gave verbal instructions to stop the construction work of the restaurant being constructed there immediately. According to Executive Director Dahal, the Narayanhiti Durbar Committee has written a letter to B Management Pvt. Ltd. following the directive of Minister Ale. The committee’s executive director Bhesnarayan Dahal, the structures are temporary.
The committee had signed an agreement with Batas Company to run restaurant business on 10 ropani of the land of the museum. There was widespread criticism after a news report that a restaurant was being built inside the Narayanhiti Durbar Museum, which is considered an archeological site. Narayanhiti’s land can be rented for Rs 50,000 per month. This agreement is only for 2.5 lakh rupees per month. This fare is very cheap in that area of Darbar Marg where vacant land and shutters are not available.
