People often visit Taudaha Lake to experience a serene escape from the busy life of Kathmandu. People find peace and much needed calmness in this lake. According to local legends, Taudaha Lake gets its name from the Newari words ‘Ta‘, which means snake, and ‘Daha‘, meaning lake. It is very much believed to be a remnant of the once vast lake that covered the area where Kathmandu city currently stands.
Taudaha Lake, to people who have utmost appreciation for nature, is a haven. The view during sunset, the sound of the calm lake, the fresh smell, and breathtaking scenery. The rich biodiversity homes a wide variety of bird species, including the bold black kite, black drongo, cattle egret, Oriental magpie robin, common myna, jungle crow, rose-ringed parakeet, white-throated kingfisher, and red-vented bulbul. Not only bird species though! It also homes common carp, silver carp, grass carp, bighead carp, and colourful carp but unfortunately these non-native species have disrupt the ecosystem and are displacing the native species. The most optimal time to visit the Taudaha lake are the cooler months from September to March. In other seasons, you may not see many birds but during this time of year there are several migratory birds which you can spot. If you’re worried that it might take countless hours to finish this vast journey of Taudaha Lake then worry not because it will take you about 2-3 hours to entirely finish your trip around this lake without missing a single thing! Also there are many restaurants near Taudaha Lake so you can easily enjoy your time with a feast while witnessing absolute beauty.
Taudaha Lake is not only beautiful for its scenery and legends but also because of its ability to calm the mind of fellow travelers. For the minds who seek calmness from the chaotic life of the city, Taudaha Lake is the place to run to!
