The Bhasmasur Hill hike offers an unforgettable adventure, rewarding you with mesmerizing vistas, an intimate connection with nature, and a chance to strengthen your hiking abilities
As I embarked on my day hike to Bhasmasur Hill, I quickly discovered that this adventure would be a bit more challenging compared to other hikes in the area. The trail is known for its steep inclines and descents, accompanied by stone steps. However, don't let that discourage you! The path is well-maintained and surprisingly clean, making the journey more enjoyable.
One of the aspects that truly enchanted me about this hike was the beautiful forest that enveloped the trail. Not only did it provide shade and respite from the sun, but it also offered a fantastic opportunity to spot various bird species and, if you're lucky, encounter some other wildlife. It's nature at its finest!
As I ascended higher, the panoramic view of the Kathmandu Valley and the majestic mountains gradually unfolded before my eyes. The sight was simply breathtaking. On a clear day, you can witness the splendor of the Himalayan ranges, spanning from the mighty Annapurna in the west to the pinnacle of the world, Mount Everest, in the east. The Mahabharata hill ranges and the entire Kathmandu Valley also grace the vista, creating a truly awe-inspiring tableau.
Besides being a remarkable day hike, Bhasmasur Hill serves as an ideal training ground for those aspiring to undertake longer and more challenging treks in the future. So, not only do you get to revel in the beauty of nature, but you also get to build your stamina and hiking skills simultaneously. It's a win-win situation!
While there are several other day hikes available near Kathmandu, each with its own unique characteristics and difficulty levels, I am delighted that our team recommends this particular hike based on your requirements and the available facilities in the area. It's essential to gather information about what to expect, trail conditions, costs, and the basic necessities to carry before embarking on any hiking adventure.
The protected forest that stretches above Machhegaun continues all the way up to Bhasmasur Hill, which sits at an elevation of over 2500 meters. From this fantastic viewpoint, you can behold the vast expanse of the Kathmandu Valley, encompassing all three distinct cities of Kathmandu. On a clear day, the view from Bhasmasur Hill is unparalleled, offering a sweeping panorama that extends from the Annapurna range to Mount Everest itself. It's no wonder this place attracts both domestic and foreign visitors alike.
Once you reach the top, you have a couple of options for your descent. You can take the trail leading towards Chandragiri Hill, where you'll eventually come across Chhap Bhanjyang. This is the perfect spot to savor authentic Nepalese meals, provided you pre-order them, as there is only one tea house along this trail. After a satisfying meal and some exploration, the trail descends and reconnects near Machhegaun, where you can easily catch transportation back to the city.
Alternatively, if you're up for more adventure, you can continue hiking all the way to the Bhaleshwor temple located on Chandragiri Hills. Once there, you have the option to take a thrilling cable car ride down to the base station, where you can conveniently catch transportation back to the city.
While the best time to hike Bhasmasur Hill is during clear weather for optimal mountain and valley views, the hike can be enjoyed throughout the year. Regardless of the season, you'll have the opportunity to connect with nature, revel in the melodious chirping of birds, and prepare yourself for future hiking endeavors.
The Bhasmasur Hill hike offers an unforgettable adventure, rewarding you with mesmerizing vistas, an intimate connection with nature, and a chance to strengthen your hiking abilities. So, gear up, embrace the challenge, and get ready to be captivated by the beauty that awaits you on this remarkable trail. Happy hiking!
