Nepal, home to eight of the world’s tallest mountains, continues to captivate adventurers from around the globe. Among those inspired by the Himalayan magic is an extraordinary group of seven visually impaired trekkers from Belgium and Holland, led by Gino Verschuere, Wendy Coomans, and Ignace Cloquet. They are preparing to embark on a life-changing journey, the Mardi Trek.
As part of an Access Tourism campaign, these resolute individuals shared their enthusiasm for Nepal during a touching "Meet and Greet" session organized by Four Season Travel & Tours at the Nepal Tourism Board. The session was nothing short of inspiring, highlighting Nepal’s diversity in adventure and travel. Each member of the group expressed their deep desire to experience Nepal’s rich culture, vibrant traditions, the charm of everyday life, and, of course, the stunning Himalayas of the nation.
Behind this remarkable project is Pankaj Pradhananga, the visionary director of Four Season Travel & Tours, whose passion brought this unique expedition to life. The session was chaired by Deepak Raj Joshi, CEO of the Nepal Tourism Board, and was graced by the presence of Parashu Nepal, Director at the International Development Institute (IDI), a Washington DC-based organization focused on capacity building through cultural exchanges.
One of the most memorable moments came when Mr. Pradhananga shared the saying, "People come to Nepal for its mountains, but they return for its people." This sentiment truly captures the warmth and hospitality that Nepal is famous for. The trekkers, though visually impaired, spoke of their eagerness to soak in the sounds, smells, and tastes of Nepal, immersing themselves fully in its sensory wonders. They even suggested creating miniatures, allowing visually impaired visitors to feel and explore the textures of Nepalese textiles.
The session was both joyful and productive, filled with enthusiasm and hope. It was a beautiful reminder that Nepal’s magical sight, the mountains may draw people in, but the heart of Nepal leaves a legacy that keeps them coming back. This journey will not only highlight the country’s breathtaking landscapes but also its inclusive spirit, welcoming all who wish to experience its wonders.
