Today marks the culmination of the Pindeshwar Poorna Mahakumbha Mela, a twelve-yearly event held in Barahkshetra Municipality-1 Chatradham of Sunsari. Over the past month, pilgrims from various parts of the country and abroad have flocked to Chatradham. Chatradham, also known as ancient Haridwar, has been hosting Kumbha Melas since Bikram Sambat 2059.

It hosts an Ardha Kumbha Mela every six years and a Purna Kumbha Mela every twelve years. Besides Chatradham, Kumbha Melas are celebrated in Allahabad, Ujjain, Nashik, and Haridwar in India.

According to Jagatguru Balasanta Mohansharan Devacharya, the Saptakoshi river in Barahkshetra and Pindeshwardham in Sunsari are mentioned in Hindu scriptures in connection with the Kumbha Mela.
