A special security operation (sweep operation) has been launched in Chitwan National Park. The Nepal Army has intensified the special operation to reach all areas of the park (sweep operation). The park staff and the Batuk Dal battalion of the Nepal Army have intensified the special campaign launched a month ago, saying that the smugglers could reach the wildlife as the bushes inside the park are getting thinner after the rains.
Dividing the park into different areas, Chief Conservation Officer of the park Annath Baral and Ganapati Arun Shrestha of Batuk Dal Battalion of the Nepal Army along with Gulmapati of the same area and Assistant Conservation Officer of the park led the sweep operation with elephant, boat, vehicle, bicycle and foot patrol. Ganapati Shrestha of the battalion informed.
Statistics show that most of the poaching incidents in the past year have taken place during this season. Chief Conservation Officer of the park Baral said that work has been done to set up posts at night in the areas where there are no posts. Officer Baral said, "There are statistics that the number of poachers has increased in the past few years. Therefore, the battalion of the Nepal Army deployed for the protection of Chitwan National Park and the park has increased the security patrols and changed the security strategy and conducted various special operations."
The campaign has been launched to reach all the areas of the park from Chure to the grasslands through Mahabharat. Conservation Officer Baral said that the campaign would be effective as it would be known even if the wild animals died and rotted during the rainy season.
The park and the army have also instructed not to enter the core area saying that the problem has arisen recently as the locals themselves do not understand the protection sensitivity. Conservationists have also demanded to discourage anyone who disrupts the conservation work, saying that political pressure has also affected the conservation work in recent times.
Due to the poaching of rhinos in Chitwan National Park, the security challenge has increased and regular patrols have been increased and special military operations have been launched. It has been conducting daily patrols in sensitive areas with the help of technical equipment, surveillance and dog training team using drones.
