RATNANAGAR
The campaign is being launched on the joint initiative of District Coordination Committee Chitwan, Ratnanagar Municipality and Regional Hotel Association Sauraha. Entrepreneurs are making final preparations for this. It is planned to reach all the seven states of Nepal and spread the message that 'Sauraha is safe'.
Hotels and restaurants that had been closed for a long time since Tourism Day were open here. Deepak Bhattarai, president of the Regional Hotel Association Sauraha, said that the campaign was postponed a decade ago due to corona. According to him, Sauraha will be invited to visit different cities of the country and a scene with tourist activities will be shown here. It is deserted due to Corona, but the number of domestic tourists is sporadic. “There were great expectations during Dashain Tihar but no tourists came. We are keeping the tourists safe by following the health standards but the traffic is low, ”said Bhattarai.
At that time, hotels in Sauraha were crowded with tourists. Entrepreneurs were encouraged to take tourists around the park. Hotels and restaurants are offering discounts of 25 to 30 percent under the Covid package. Bhattarai said only five to seven percent of the tourists came. Covid-19 and subsequent lockdowns resulted in the loss of employment. Business came to a standstill. Therefore, tourism entrepreneurs are giving a 20 to 30 percent discount on the previous rate to reduce the purchasing power of Nepalis. Bhattarai said that it was suggested to package individual discounts rather than collective ones and bring more group programs from it, but the businessman complained that tourists were not attracted to the discounts.
There are more tourists in restaurants than in hotels. Dipendra Khatiwada, president of Restaurant and Bar Association Nepal Sauraha, said that there is an influx of tourists from different districts and about 30 percent of tourists come to the restaurant. However, tourists have not come up to the expected 15 percent discount. Entrepreneurs have demanded that the government should open international flights soon saying that domestic tourists have not been attracted even after giving discounted packages. There are 140 big and small hotels and about 50 restaurants in Sauraha.
