Morocco will start administering booster COVID-19 vaccine shots in the coming days, as part of the national immunization campaign, the Ministry of Health announced Friday.

The ministry said in a statement that following the recommendations of the Moroccan scientific committee, the third booster jabs will be administered as part of the national vaccination campaign, urging all Moroccans and foreigners residing in Morocco to join this operation.

The North African country launched a nationwide vaccination campaign on Jan. 28 after the arrival of the first shipment of China's Sinopharm vaccines.

As of Friday, 22,719,086 people have received the first vaccine shots against COVID-19 in the country, and 19,197,916 people have received two doses.

Morocco reported on Friday 936 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total infections in the country to 934,007. The death toll rose by 23 to 14,290, while 835 people are in intensive care units.
