Nepal's domestic travel culture blossoms as Nepalis embrace local exploration, discovering the wonders within their own backyard.

A surge in domestic tourism is sweeping across Nepal, as more and more Nepalis opt to explore the scenic beauty of their own country. Nissan Khadka, a schoolteacher, recently embarked on a trek to Mardi Himal in Kaski during the Dashain holiday season. He stated that traveling during autumn provides an incredible opportunity to learn about new cultures and geographies.

The appeal of walking in Nepal's breathtaking landscapes isn't limited to one individual. Arju Khatri, a student, and Om Khatri, a business owner, also decided to explore their home country during Dashain. Arju, along with friends from Kathmandu, trekked to Mardi base camp, relishing the journey's beauty. Om Khatri made his first trip to Dhorpatan, even though it's within his own district. He noted a growing desire to explore nearby destinations.

Diwas Gurung, an avid traveller, embarked on several solo journeys, including a 55-day trek from Mustang to Raratal in Mugu. His adventures have taken him from cycling through Eastern Nepal and Madhes to hiking along the 'Guerrilla Trail.' He emphasized the increasing trend of solo travel among Nepalis, highlighting the importance of preparation and knowledge about the destination.

Dr. Ravin Kadaria, head of the Annapurna Conservation Area Project, confirmed the growing domestic travel culture. He mentioned that the Annapurna region has witnessed a surge in visitors, especially among Nepali youth. The pandemic briefly slowed down tourism, but the region is gradually regaining momentum.

As Nepalis continue to explore their own country's heritage and natural beauty, it's clear that domestic tourism is on the rise, with more people recognizing the gems in their own backyard._Rss
