The tourism business in Sauraha, which looked promising during the Dashain holiday, has slowed down again. Although tourists are seen coming here and returning on the same day, only a small number of residential tourists have come.
Although there have been residential tourists for a few days since the day after Dashain Tika, the number of tourists has also decreased after the end of the holiday. Entrepreneurs expecting tourists to come during the festive season are disappointed. Most of the hotels are open with the bustle of Dashain. Workers have come to work in all the hotels. Entrepreneurs have said that it is difficult to meet the operating expenses due to a lack of tourists.
According to Suman Ghimire, the manager of the jungle safari lodge, the number of tourists who spend the night is very low. He said that the tourists who come during the day enjoy elephant rides, jeep safaris and eat at Sauraha restaurants but return in the evening.
He said, "There are more people who come back every day than stay." The visitors are from Chitwan and neighboring districts. Deepak Bhattarai, president of the Regional Hotel Association Sauraha, says that the number of tourists staying at the hotel is low. He said that even though weddings were held in some hotels, other hotels were waiting for guests.
Entrepreneurs hope that the business will return to normal if the corona infection gradually decreases. Dipendra Khatiwada, president of Restaurant and Bar Association (Rewan) Sauraha, says that domestic tourists visit pubs on the banks of the Rapti. Stating that the business has been good in the restaurant till now after ten years, he said that he will know the situation in a day or two.
Hotels that had been closed since March 26 were reopened for a few days in Saun. The hotel, which has been open since September 20, has not been able to do business as expected. There are 110 hotels in Sauraha. There are hundreds of small and large restaurants. More than 5,500 workers have been directly employed in various sectors at the hotel in Sauraha.
Tourists visiting Chitwan National Park spend the night in Sauraha. Since they are there, they go on jeep safaris, foot and boat rides inside the park, while outside the park, they do elephant safaris and jeep safaris in the intermediate community forest. Tourists come to see the rare wild animals such as unicorns, rhinos, tigers, crocodiles and birds.
