WTTC's report 'The Outlook for Business Travel' published in November 2021 has higlighted some interesting trends and circumstances in the tourism and travel sector. The report has stated that business travel all over the world outpaced leisure travel and will continue to expand and accelerate in 2022.
Many experts in 2021 had concluded that business travel all around the world will lag behind leisure travel caused due to the disruption of Omicron in late 2021. But the numbers and data from the report have shown that business travel has outpaced leisure travel by 13, 10 and 1 per cent in the Middle East, Europe and Africa respectively.
In 2021, the report has shown that the Middle East was ranked first in its increase in business travel spending with a 49 per cent increase followed by Europe and Africa observing a 36 per cent increase, the Asia Pacific seeing a rise of 32 per cent and lastly Americas having an increase in business travel of 14 per cent.
Now the report has forecasted that the Asia Pacific regions will lead the recovery of business travel in 2022 with a 41 per cent increase, followed by the Americas with a 35 per cent boom in business travel. Next will be the Middle East with 32 per cent then Europe is projected to have an increase of 28 per cent with Africa experiencing a 23 per cent rise.
