This festival is mostly celebrated around the pine trees left by the Pandava brothers when they were living in the forest. Most of the places where the Pandavas have gone, carry stones somewhere, dig somewhere, and leave a stone like some shaped stones, they celebrate this festival more.

In recent times, many communities have been celebrating the Bhuwa festival to protect their identity. The local government is also involved in protecting the festival.

During the Bhuwa festival, there is a custom of playing different games such as Deuda, Bharikhel, Bhasso, and other games by lighting a fire all night long. This festival is celebrated for three to five days. There is also a custom of playing chhaiti in the village when Bhuwo is played. According to Yagyaraj Pandit of Badimalika Municipality-1 Pata Bajura, it is customary to go to the house of the eldest son of the family and ask for leave after one year of his birth.

The verses of Bhuwa are also sung differently according to their own language, rhythm and culture along with the victory of the Pandavas. In some villages, wearing crowns and make-up, some people are made into tigers, chitals, deers, and they go around with wares, while in some places, they go to villages fighting in the middle of the night.

“Bhuwa festival has been celebrated in the ancient Nepali community since the time of Sindhughanti. Bhuwa festival is celebrated in the districts where the Jumla civilization is spreading rapidly in the Far West. During the festival, there is a tradition of singing Bhuwaka Mana (songs) about the struggle of the Pandavas during the war between the Pandavas and the Kauravas, the time they lived in the forest, and the role they played in development,” said Madhav Prasad Joshi of Khaptadchanna rural municipality-5.

"In order to preserve our traditions, culture, and identity, we must revive the festival. Many local governments have now taken steps to preserve their identity. We have also requested the locals to provide financial support for the protection of the festival,” said Chetraj Bajal, head of Jai Prithvi Municipality.

"In our Bajura house, after one year of the birth of the eldest son, there is a custom of playing Chaithi on the occasion of Bhuwa festival.
