What inspired you to pursue a career in hospitality, and what personal motto guides your professional journey?
Hospitality was not initially part of my career plan, even though my father was a hotelier. It was during my industrial training that I experienced the industry firsthand. From the outset, I felt an unexpected connection, there was a sense of excitement and continuous learning that drew me in. What began as a learning experience gradually evolved into a genuine passion. I found myself enjoying every aspect of the work and constantly striving to do more. From that point on, I never looked back.
My personal motto is simple: “know your basics.” I firmly believe that a strong foundation is more important than ever in today’s fast-evolving hospitality landscape.
How do you encourage diversity and inclusion within your team and across the resort?
At Dusit Thani Himalayan Resort Dhulikhel, our team reflects the diversity of the local community, with a strong emphasis on balanced gender representation. We actively promote the advancement of women in leadership by providing equal opportunities, professional development, and meaningful learning exposure. This not only strengthens our team but also enhances the guest experience. Notably, our commercial team is predominantly women-led, with only one male member; an example of our commitment to empowering women in hospitality.
Which traveller segments are currently driving growth for your property?
As a luxury wellness resort located near the sacred site of Namo Buddha, Dusit Thani Himalayan Resort Dhulikhel appeals to a diverse range of traveller segments, including leisure, MICE, religious, social, and corporate guests.
As a signature brand known for delivering a high standard of service, we are recognised as a distinctive destination. This allows us to attract both international and domestic travellers, ensuring balanced and sustained growth across all segments.
What is the biggest challenge hotels face today in maintaining long-term growth?
I see this less as a challenge and more as an opportunity for improvement, particularly in managing evolving guest expectations. In today’s rapidly advancing, AI-driven world, guests have high expectations for personalised service, along with high standards of infrastructure and facilities, not just from hotels, but from the destination as a whole. Consistency across all touchpoints is therefore essential.
At the same time, as Nepal’s hospitality industry continues to grow, it is vital to invest in emerging talent. Creating opportunities for newcomers who bring fresh ideas, energy, and perspective will be key to fostering innovation and sustaining long-term growth.
What advice would you give to young women aspiring to build careers in hospitality leadership?
Hospitality offers immense opportunities, but it will also challenge you to step beyond your comfort zone. Embrace these moments, they are essential to growth.
