Tourism is picking up in Pokhara, Nepal, especially with the Nepali New Year approaching. Lots of people, both from Nepal and other countries, are visiting the city, especially around the lakeside area. This makes business owners who rely on tourists feel hopeful again.
The head of the Pokhara Hotel Association, Lakshman Subedi, says more people are staying in hotels now. During the slow months of December and January, only a few hotels were full, but now it's about half, sometimes even more on Fridays and Saturdays. Subedi thinks it could go up to almost full during New Year.
There's a big festival called the "19th Phewa New Year Festival" happening soon at Lakeside, which should bring even more people to Pokhara. Hotels are offering discounts to attract guests. Even though there are already 20,000 visitors each day, Pokhara's hotels can actually handle twice that number.
Hotel owners are happy to see more tourists coming back after a tough time. This is good news for businesses in Pokhara that rely on tourism.
