The fee that would be paid to the region for carrying water from the Melamchi river has been prepared for finalization. The Ministry of Water Supply's spokeswoman, Shobhakant Poudel, announced that a commission to determine water tariffs will be established and that it will consider the levy issue.
She claimed that the Water Tariff Determination Act contains a commission provision that will resolve the levy issue. Poudel, the spokesperson, said: "The ministry is putting the appropriate things in place. The implementation of the levy won't happen tomorrow since there hasn't been enough time for discussion and planning."
She suggested that the government should also talk to the National Natural Resources and Finance Commission on how much money and revenue it will give to the federal, state, and municipal governments. According to spokesperson Poudel, the same commission will carry out the law's implementation because the topic of revenue determination is expressly covered there.
She claims that 17 million liters of water are now delivered everyday, and the responsible party will be compensated for this. Payments will also be provided for the future receipt of 51 million liters of water per day. A portion of the profits, according to Rajendra Prasad Pant, spokesman for the Melamchi Water Supply Development Committee, are thought to be bestowed locally through projects managed by donor organizations.
