The Beni-Jomsom road, which connects the trans-Himalayan Mustang district with the national highway via the northern belt of Myagdi, has been closed daily for six hours since Monday. The transport service has been suspended every day to prevent landslides at the Rupse fall area in Annapurna Rural Municipality-3 of Myagdi, due to the construction of a Bailey bridge and the expansion of the road network.
According to Chief District Officer Tulsiram Poudel, the vehicular movement has been halted from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. from April 17 through May 3. The same road section was closed during the same hours earlier, from March 17–28. The road project stated that the disruption of traffic services along the road section was due to the risk associated with continuing road, bridge, and landslide prevention works in the narrowed space.
The contractors approached the District Administration Office Myagdi through the Beni-Jomsom-Korala road project with a letter requesting the management of the schedule. Vehicles travelling to and from Mustang and Myagdi should cross the Rupse Road section before the closure of traffic services. However, the administration stated that it would arrange for the smooth movement of ambulances and vehicles for the most essential services and goods on the road.
The Kaligandaki corridor—Beni—Jomsom—Korala road project, a national pride project, has made significant progress with road upgrade, expansion, and blacktop in different sections._Rss
