While strolling through Basantapur early in the day, one can take in the sights of pilgrims ringing bells and performing rites of prayers, vendors setting up their stalls, and people gathering for tea.

Kathmandu Durbar Square, also known as Basantapur Durbar Kshetra, is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites within the Kathmandu Valley. Although there are no documented records of the history of Kathmandu Durbar Square, Sankharadev is credited with building the palace there in the 10th century. Basantapur is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Kathmandu and is home to ancient palaces and temples.
