Art Kathmandu 2026, themed “A Convergence of Lineages,” by Ri Mo Kathmandu inaugurated at Kathmandu Marriott Hotel, showcasing over 108 Nepali artists in a vibrant celebration of contemporary art from 6–8 April.

Kathmandu, Nepal – 6 April 2026

Art Kathmandu 2026, a landmark exhibition celebrating the breadth and evolution of Nepal’s contemporary art scene, officially opened today at the Kathmandu Marriott Hotel. Organised in collaboration with Ri Mo Kathmandu, the exhibition is themed “A Convergence of Lineages” and brings together over 108 Nepali artists across generations.

Positioned as a dynamic platform for artistic dialogue, the exhibition presents a compelling cross-section of Nepal’s visual culture that bridges tradition and experimentation, heritage and innovation, and local narratives with global perspectives. Works on display span a wide spectrum of mediums, including painting, sculpture, installation, ceramic, and mixed media.

The inauguration ceremony, held at 3:00 PM on 6 April, was attended by notable figures from Nepal’s cultural and public spheres.

The exhibition was formally inaugurated by Mrs Sabina Kafle, a public health professional, writer, and advocate for social and cultural dialogue, and spouse of the Rt Hon Prime Minister alongside acclaimed actress and media professional Swastima Khadka, in the presence of dignitaries, diplomats, and artists.

The occasion was further graced by distinguished personalities including Miss Nepal Cosmo 2025, Deepshikha Nepal, Miss Nepal Earth 2018, Priya Sigdel, along with leading artists and curators.

Art Kathmandu 2026 showcases  works ranging from emerging graduates to some of Nepal’s most established senior artists, offering visitors a layered narrative of the country’s artistic journey. From acrylic and oil paintings to sculpture and abstract contemporary expressions, each piece reflects a distinct voice and perspective. The artworks on display were of such exceptional quality that some commanded prices reaching NPR 10 lakhs: an apt reflection of the craftsmanship, effort, and visual impact they embody. A notable highlight of the opening day was the opportunity for visitors to engage directly with artists, who provided insights into their creative processes and the stories behind their works.

Speaking at the inauguration, Mausam Bohora, Director, Ri Mo Kathmandu, said:
“Art Kathmandu was conceived with a quiet but sincere intention - to create space for Nepal’s artists to speak in their own voices. As a country, we are becoming more confident in defining how we wish to be seen, and this exhibition reflects that journey by bringing together tradition and contemporary expression as part of a living, evolving cultural narrative.”

Gaurav Agarwal, Managing Director, Everest Hospitality Pvt. Ltd., added:
“Art has always been a deeply personal passion for me, shaped by years of engaging with Nepali artists and their stories. Through this collaboration with Ri Mo Kathmandu, we are proud to present a platform that celebrates both the richness of our artistic heritage and its contemporary evolution.”

The inauguration was marked by a vibrant atmosphere, complemented by curated hospitality from the hotel’s signature dining venues, Edamame and Thamel Kitchen, where guests enjoyed a selection of lunch and refreshments.

The exhibition will remain open to the public from 6 to 8 April 2026, with viewing hours from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM daily at Kathmandu Marriott Hotel.

As a significant cultural gathering, Art Kathmandu 2026 not only celebrates creativity but also reinforces Kathmandu’s position as an emerging hub for contemporary art in South Asia. Media engagement and public participation are expected to play a crucial role in extending the reach and impact of this initiative.
