An amalgamation of culture and modernity, Milan stands out as one of the upcoming epicentres of tourism in 2022. While most tourists flock to cities like Rome, Venice and Florence when visiting Italy, most of them pay little to no heed to what Milan offers to its travellers.

The second largest city in Italy, it is imbued deeply with a sense of artistic culture, fashion and religion while also keeping up with recent industrial trends. Exquisite museums, galleries and churches await visitors amidst the streets of the dreamy city.

THINGS TO DO IN MILAN:

  1. Visit Duomo di Milano

The second-largest cathedral in the world, Duomo di Milano, is a breathtaking structure that epitomises the intricacies behind Gothic architecture. The construction of the cathedral began in 1386 with the hope of modernising the city under Visconti territory, spanning over 5 centuries. Due to which various talented architects and artists were able add their own touches to this magnificent building.

Duomo di Milano remains one of the most important attractions within Milan, with elaborate biblical paintings adorning the walls, architectural remains of Basilica di Santa Tecla and a rooftop terrace displaying panoramic views of Milan.

  1. Visit Castello Sforzesco

One of the most elaborate castles in Europe, the Castello Sforzesco is an architecturally mediaeval site that hosts the city’s most extensive art collections. Currently, the interior hosts multiple municipal museums and other cultural institutions. However, the expanse of the castle grounds in itself is a remarkable spectacle- characterised by massive courtyards, deep moats, and tall towers.

Visit Castello Sforzesco to observe how Millan has truly embraced its evolving cultures while paying homage to its rich history.

  1. Visit Galleria Vittorio Emanuel II

Constructed in the 19th century, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuel II is Italy's oldest shopping centre that remains active till this date. Constructed by 2 structures of glass, it creates an octagonal dome over the central space of the building. The sophisticated architecture of the Galleria is one with the posh entertainment scene it hosts. Housing high-end boutiques, shopping brands and renowned restaurants, the Galleria is an interesting sight to behold.

Surprisingly enough, one can also come across a McDonalds in the gallery. Although, the signature fast food restaurant chain uncharacteristically blends into the gallery’s aesthetic. With long black columns and gold decorations and a large terrace, you might have to strain your eyes to catch sight of the signature red and yellow!

  1. Observe the Last Supper in its full glory

Leonardo Da Vinci’s mural, the Last Supper needs no introduction, but when in Milan, it is a location that must be visited. The mural paints the scene of Christ’s last meal with his disciples on the night before his crucifixion. Located in the Santa Maria della Grazie, reservations are required all year round, additionally  tickets must be booked up to four months in advance to observe Da Vinci’s most ominous artwork.

  1. Leonardo Da Vinci Museum of Science and Technology

Paying homage to da Vinci’s ingenuity, the Leonardo Da Vinci of Science and Technology consists of various interactive mechanisms, machines and workshops for keen visitors. Moreover, the exhibitions in the museums are curated to display digital reproductions of his pictorial designs of mechanics and anatomical studies.

What comes to mind when one thinks of a trip to Italy is seldom the city of Milan. But if you ever find yourself walking through the streets of this quaint location, you’ll find yourself experiencing the beauty of the Renaissance in 2022.
