Creating a ‘Wow Factor’

Shambala Garden Cafe located inside Shangri-La Hotel Kathmandu has bright and warm interior, perfect for your delicious buffet breakfast while observing the Chef perform his craft at the live kitchen. Overlooking the magnificent Shambala Garden the alfresco seating of the restaurant is a big hit with both guests and locals. Plus the staff are exceptionally friendly and welcoming.

Their à la carte menu is plentiful and varied. The guests also have the luxury to order customised dishes to their taste. The food at the Shambala Garden Cafe is simply magnificent – and breathtakingly labour intensive.

I didn’t know that the simple yet decadent and elegant desert item of red wine poached pear could be used to create a refreshing starter until Executive Chef, Vikram Kumar served us - Spiced Poached Pear with Guacamole and Feta Cheese. The sweet and spicy red wine poached pear paired well with the mild guacamole and salty and tangy feta cheese. All these components of the dish was brought together by a refreshingly spicy and sour red wine reduction dressing. The starter was a complete textural and flavour kaleidoscope that got my taste buds tingling for more.

Next we had Roasted Rack of Lamb with Polenta. This beautiful roasted rack of lamb was juicy and bursting with herby flavours. Cooked medium rare, the succulent rack of lamb tasted excellent in each bite. The rich and savoury red wine jus and the sweet and vibrant roasted bell pepper puree added layers of flavour to the dish. Along with crisp boiled vegetables and creamy polenta, this roasted rack of lamb dish is a must-try.

And finally, the pretty dessert of Chocolate Hazelnut Mousse Tart was as heavenly to look at as was to taste. A combination between a Tart and Paris–Brest, this dessert had the perfect balance between the bitter with the sweet. The buttery and nutty crumble, bitter-sweet chocolate hazelnut mousse along with a scoop of in-house vanilla ice-cream made this an absolutely delicious dessert.

The kitchen team at Shambala Garden Cafe take their effort to prepare immaculate dishes for customers; immaculate not only in taste but also in looks. The way they present the dishes creates a wow factor, drawing in the customer even before they have tasted the dish.
