Devotees observe the holy month by attending regular early-morning pilgrimages to Swayambhu in Kathmandu and other Buddhist temples while playing Gunla Bajan music. The musical groups are a representation of the city's numerous boroughs.
The Newar Buddhists demeanor fasts, recite texts, and go to places of worship while listening to devotional music throughout the holy month of Gunla. It is one of the most significant junctures in Newar Buddhism.
According to traditional beliefs, heavy rain would fall during the primal stint. In order to relieve their pain and protect themselves from landslides and floods, people would flock to Swayambhu to listen to devotional music.
