Yeti Airlines, one of the leading private airline companies in Nepal, successfully conducted the proving flight (Kathmandu-Varanasi-Kathmandu) on Wednesday.
The proving flight was conducted to meet the criteria used by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) to assess the standard as the company has applied for permission to operate the chartered and non-scheduled flights in the countries of South-eastern Asia and South Asia, according to Chief Security officer and spokesperson for Yeti Airlines, Sudarshan Bartaula said. With the completion of the proving flight, the airline company has reached the final stage. After the authorities study the report prepared on the proving flight, Yeti Airlines will be granted Air operator's certificate (AOC) in a few days, Bartaula stated in a press release issued on Wednesday.
The test flight was conducted by the crew led by senior captain Ramod Kumar Shrestha and Pramod Paudel. The ATR-72 aircraft bearing 9N-AMN took off from the Tribhuvan International Airport at 10:07 am to Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi and returned at 5:48 pm. Spokesperson Bartaula also informed that the officials from the CAAN and the Yeti Airlines took part in the proving flight.
The airline company targets to promote religious tourism in the country by connecting the regional airport with the nearer international airports via the operation of international flights. The Yeti Airlines and the Yeti Group have been providing services to international and domestic tourists through their travel agencies, trekking company, and hotels in the country. Yeti airlines have further planned to import aircraft with moderate capacity to operate international flights in Asia. The airline company which has currently been operating flights via ATR-72 and Jetstream aircraft within the country will have purchased two more ATR-72 aircraft by 2021.
