With heavy snowfall in the districts of Upper Karnali including Jumla, the farmers here are relieved. Sunita Pandey of Chandannath Municipality said that it snowed for the first time in Jumla in this winter from 5 o'clock in the morning.
Due to the influence of southern and western winds, it has been raining all over West Nepal including Karnali. After the snowfall, the life of Jumla has become difficult. Two to three feet of snow has accumulated in the high places of the district.
According to the weather field office Jumla, the temperature here has reached minus. Similarly, there has been snowfall in the higher parts of Jumla, Humla, Dolpa, Mugu and Kalikot. After the snowfall, the market at the headquarters of Khalanga has been closed. The means of transport are not functioning properly.
Ganesh Adhikari, the Head of Agriculture Development Office Jumla, says that although life is difficult, winter crops will get relief due to snowfall. The office says that the farmers benefited from the snowfall during the planting of new apple trees.
Dalbir Wad, a technician of Sinja rural municipality's agriculture branch, said that it is suitable for farmers who have made snow ponds to collect snow and plant new crops. Airports in Karnali and Jumla have been closed after the snowfall.
The Civil Aviation Authority Office, Jumla, has informed that no flights were operated this morning due to snow accumulation on the runway. The long and short distance transports running from the district have not been able to run. Due to the snowfall, mobile towers and electricity services in different places of the district are being interrupted from time to time._RSS
