Three local levels in Manang, the district in Gandaki Province, have suffered massive damages due to floods triggered by incessant rainfall. According to the District Administration Office, Manang, the floods have its implications on most parts in Chame, Naso and Ngisyang rural municipalities.
Floods from several local rivers gushed into Naso and Chame, leaving wider-scale damages. Many houses have been inundated. Around 1,000 people of 200 households across the district have been rendered homeless by the monsoon floods . The incessant rains triggered landslides in several parts of the district. The local administration said six houses were completely submerged in the water in Chame after floods from the local Ghatte and Chyattu rivers entered the settlement.
Chief District Officer Bishnu Lamichhane said people facing the risk of floods and those affected by water-inducted disasters have been shifted to safer locations. They presently reside in a new building of a jail at Madakuna of Chame rural municipality-5.
Chame rural municipality chair Lokendra Bahadur Ghale said people of Chame Bazar, Naya Bazar, Timang and Syarku have been shifted to the building. The post office at Chame Bazar was washed away in the flooding. Private houses to government offices based in between the two rivers are at great risk of facing the implications. Floods swept away a power house, a Bailey bridge and a wooden bridge.
