Nepal has been recognised as the ‘Top Hiking Destination’ at the Diplomatic Travel Awards 2026 held in New Delhi. The award celebrates Nepal’s globally admired Himalayan trails, adventure tourism offerings, and growing international appeal as a leading destination for trekking and sustainable travel.

Nepal has once again earned international recognition for its world-renowned trekking and hiking experiences after being honoured with the title of ‘Top Hiking Destination’ at the Diplomatic Travel Awards 2026 held in New Delhi.

The prestigious event took place on 18 May, 2026 at Radisson Blu Plaza Delhi Airport, bringing together representatives from international diplomatic missions, tourism stakeholders, and distinguished members of the global travel fraternity.

Representing Nepal, Surendra Thapa, Charge d’Affaires of the Nepal Embassy received the award on behalf of the country. The recognition highlights Nepal’s enduring appeal as one of the world’s leading hiking and adventure tourism destinations, celebrated for its breathtaking Himalayan trails, rich cultural heritage, and warm hospitality.

The award comes at a time when Nepal’s tourism industry continues to witness strong post-pandemic momentum, particularly in trekking, mountaineering, and experiential travel. Nepal remains globally renowned for iconic routes such as the Everest Base Camp Trek, Annapurna Circuit, Langtang Valley, and Mardi Himal, attracting adventure seekers from around the world.

Around 40 Heads of Missions and diplomatic representatives attended the ceremony, reflecting the truly global nature of the awards. Countries represented included Nepal, Bhutan, Russia, Brazil, United Kingdom, South Africa, Morocco, Denmark, Chile, and several others.

Nepal has continued to strengthen its reputation in the international tourism market through consistent recognition at global travel platforms. Earlier this year, the country also received awards for adventure and experiential tourism during major travel events in India.

With growing global interest in sustainable travel, mountain wellness escapes, and authentic outdoor experiences, the latest recognition further reinforces Nepal’s position as a premier destination for hiking and Himalayan adventure tourism.
