Currently, Kuwait's Jazeera Airlines is operating three flights a week from Gautam Buddha Airport. Nepal Airlines has been flying to 10 destinations in eight countries, including three in India. The airline has two wide-body A-330 and two narrow-body A-320 aircraft for international flights.
Five and a half months after Gautam Buddha Airport became commercially operational, Himalaya Airlines has been operating regular chartered flights to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The airline is operating one chartered flight daily. The Civil Aviation Authority had arranged for airline companies that operate more than three daily flights from Tribhuvan International Airport to also fly from Bhairahawa. Because of this, Himalaya Airlines started chartered flights.
Nepal Airlines is also going to fly from Bhairahawa airport for more flights. The authority says that Nepal Airlines is in discussions to start international flights from Bhairahawa soon. At the Gautam Buddha International Airport, which is a project of national pride, the regulatory body made a binding arrangement to attract international airlines by conducting at least one international flight by domestic companies.
The authority has already requested in writing five international airlines, including two Nepal Airlines and Himalaya Airlines, to fly from Gautam Buddha Airport. The authority has also decided to give a 25 percent discount on domestic flights to passengers going abroad using Gautam Buddha International Airport. Similarly, according to the authority, preparations are being made to start flights from the airlines of Thailand and other countries.
Gautam Buddha International Airport, whose construction started on Magh 1, 2071, was laid by Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and has been operational since Jestha 2, 2079. The airport has now given a 100 percent discount for one year on the landing fee, rest fee, communication and aviation fee, and security fee charged by the Nepal Civil Aviation Authority to the airlines flying international flights. Similarly, the airport said that a 50 percent discount has been provided for one year on the ground handling service charged by the Nepal Airlines Corporation.
“International flights from Bhairahawa are being prepared by the end of December. A committee formed under the coordination of Janakraj Kalakheti, commercial director of the corporation, is studying the flight operations for that purpose,” said Archana Khadka, Nepal Airlines Spokesperson.
“After submitting the study report, the board meeting of the corporation decided and consulted with the stakeholders according to the plan to operate commercial flights. After the report of the committee, the board will take a decision about which destination to fly to.” Said spokesperson._Rss
