Khichra festival will be organized in Chitwan this year. The eighth edition of the Khichra festival is going to be held at Gaucharan in Jabkauli, Khairhani Municipality-5 of East Chitwan from 29th January to 9th January. The organizer Tharu Kalyankarini Sabha Chitwan Region No. 7 held a press conference on Saturday and the preparations for the festival have been accelerated.
Other attractions in the festival include cultural performances with traditional costumes of Tharu and other tribes every day, exhibition hall of Tharu special food, exhibition of original food dishes of Tharu and other tribes, competitive agricultural produce exhibition, various handicrafts and commercial exhibitions, children's garden, open attendance answer competition, Mr. and Miss Tharu 2022 contestants will have an exhibition of Tharu costumes from all over Nepal, Tharu special cultural performances from different districts of Terai, free health camps, Tharu Brahmathan complex, etc.
To make the festival a success, a 151-member original organizing committee has been formed, while 32 different sub-committees have been formed. On the opening day of the festival, a procession with tableaux and various traditional costumes will be taken out from Khairhani-8 Maganichowk to the festival venue, Chudamani Chaudhary, the chairman of the organizing organization, informed.
The entrance fee for the festival is fixed. Similarly, there will be 120 different commercial exhibition rooms at the festival. The two-day Khichra festival was started in 2070 under the leadership of founder Mahato. The Tharu community has been celebrating the Khichra festival in a grand manner on January 1st.
“The Khichra festival has become a festival for all castes and communities, and there is a provision of free entry for the spectators who come in traditional costumes of the marginalized tribes. This kind of dress reflects the identity of the community and also helps in conservation. Since the purpose of the festival is the preservation of art and culture, we have given priority to original costumes." Said Krishnalal Chowdhury, coordinator of the original organizing committee of the festival.
“Khichra festival has become a 'brand' of Chitwan and hoped for everyone's support and cooperation to complete it grandly. This festival also played an important role in making the identity and culture of the Tharu community known to the world,” said President of Tharu Kalyankarinisabha Chitwan Lalit Chaudhary
“Since Khichra is an important festival of the Tharu community, it is being organized as a festival to make it known all over the world. The festival has been brought to this point with the general support of local Tharu youths and businessmen despite the lack of finances, it is continuing,” Said Narayan Prasad Mahato, the founding coordinator of the festival._Rss
