NEW DELHI,
Amid a spike in the local COVID-19 cases, India's northwestern state of Rajasthan on Sunday announced fresh restrictions including a night curfew to curb the spread of the pandemic, officials said. Besides imposition of a night curfew in eight areas in the state, a negative COVID-19 test report has become mandatory for visitors from other states.
"In view of the possibility of a second wave of COVID-19 infection ... Markets will remain closed in all the urban bodies of the state from 22 March onwards after 10:00 p.m.," state Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said.
"Night curfew will be held from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. in Ajmer, Bhilwara, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Udaipur, Sagwara and Kushalgarh. Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) negative report within 72 hours will be mandatory for all passengers coming from outside in Rajasthan from 25th March onwards," he announced.
Media reports said travellers from Kerala, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana will have to produce a COVID-19 negative report for entering Rajasthan. On Sunday morning health authorities said Rajasthan recorded a daily spike of 445 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing its total tally to 324,948.
Meanwhile, media reports said Gehlot has instructed local health and administrative officials to take measures including enforcement of restrictions, intensified testing and crowd control to contain the spread of COVID-19.
