The country's health minister announced on Thursday that India has started randomly testing foreign travelers arriving at its airports for COVID-19 due to a surge in cases in China's neighbor.
In addition to calling on state governments to step up their surveillance for any novel coronavirus variations and transmit samples of all positive cases to genome sequencing labs, Mansukh Mandaviya introduced the new rule in Parliament.
In addition, Mandaviya urged people to keep their distance from others and wear masks, despite the fact that neither of these actions is required by law.
Following a dramatic decline in coronavirus incidence earlier this year, India loosened its mask-wearing regulations. Since the start of the pandemic, it has reported the most COVID-19 cases worldwide, but the number of infections that have been confirmed has significantly decreased recently.
Data from the health ministry show that there are now 3,400 coronavirus cases active in India.
Since China's neighbor loosened its stringent regulations earlier this month in response to rare public demonstrations, the number of cases has increased.
According to Mandaviya, there are currently no intentions for the Indian government to stop flights from nations where new instances have been recorded.
The Indian Medical Association, the country's leading medical association, also urged people to get vaccine boosters and wear masks in all public settings on Thursday. It advised individuals to stay away from public events including weddings, social and political gatherings, and international travel._AP News
