Forth Valley College Students Participate in Cultural and Skill-Based Exchange Program in Nepal under UK’s Turing Scheme

Students and instructors from Scotland’s Forth Valley College completed a three-week cultural and hospitality skills exchange program in Nepal, organized by LCCI Global Qualifications under the UK Government’s Turing Scheme.

Kathmandu, February 20, 2025 – LCCI Global Qualifications (LCCI GQ), with the assistance of the United Kingdom (UK) Government, successfully organized a three-week cultural and skill-based exchange program under the Turing Scheme for students and instructors from Forth Valley College, Scotland. Held from February 4 to February 20, 2025, the program offered participants hands-on hospitality training and exposure to Nepal’s cultural heritage.

During their visit, the group explored major tourist destinations including Kathmandu Valley, Sauraha in Chitwan, and Pokhara. The main objective of this initiative was to foster skill-based learning and cultural exchange between Nepalese and UK students in the hospitality sector.


Key Programs Included


Sustainable Cooking Practice: Conducted at Hospitality World Campus, Lalitpur, this session focused on preparing traditional Nepali and Raithane Newari cuisine. Participants also visited local markets to understand ingredient sourcing.

Waste Management in Hospitality: Hosted by the Asian Institute of Technology and Management (AITM), students learned about sustainable food services and hotel operations.

Soft Skills and Mixology Training: The Kathmandu Institute of Hospitality Management Center provided training on professionalism and networking in hospitality, alongside mixology workshops.

Food Safety Training: A session at A La Carte Hospitality Nepal educated participants on HACCP and its significance in the food industry.

The program concluded with a closing ceremony where students from Forth Valley College and LCCI GQ partner institutions jointly prepared and presented Scottish and Nepalese dishes.

Apart from the educational aspect, the participants visited historical and religious sites across Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur, gaining insight into Nepal’s rich culture and traditions. In Chitwan, they engaged with the Tharu community, participated in a cooking class, attended a cultural show, and explored local wildlife, including the rare one-horned rhinoceros. Their visit to Pokhara highlighted the impacts of climate change on the Himalayan region, encouraging global awareness and advocacy.
