World's tallest woman takes her first plane flight after airline removes six seats to make it possible

The world’s tallest woman, Rumeysa Gelgi, was able to make her first trip on an aeroplane after Turkish Airlines removed six seats to accommodate her travel.

Gelgi, who is 7 feet tall, was recognised as the tallest woman in the world last year by Guinness World Records.

Six economy seats were removed from the aircraft by Turkish Airlines so that Gelgi could travel on a stretcher for the duration of the 13-hour voyage from Istanbul to San Francisco.

25-year-old Gelgi has a condition called Weaver syndrome, which causes bones to grow rapidly and larger than normal. Due to her illness, she usually moves around with a wheelchair or walker. She was too tall to fly in an aeroplane even as a young child.

“This is my first flight, but it certainly won’t be the last. From now on, I will be very honoured and happy to fly to different parts of the world with Turkish airlines. A heartfelt thank you to every single person involved in my journey,” Gelgi shared.
