Chief Minister of State-2, Lalbabu Raut, has called on the federal government to provide a special economic relief package to the State-2.
In a letter addressed to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Chief Minister Raut demanded that the federal government provide a special package to his province for fighting against the coronavirus pandemic.
He argued that the special economic package was necessitated as the present management seemed inadequate in the face of the increased risk of COVID-19 infection in State-2 given the open border with India and the possibility of a large number of people who have gone for work in India returning home.
According to him, the federal government should come up with concrete programmes as it has become challenging for the State government alone to provide relief materials including food grains to citizens who have been facing problems in their daily life due to the lockdown. He said that although the State government, in coordination with the local levels, distributed relief assistance in two phases, this has been inadequate given the geographical situation, population structure, poor human development index and the low status of social development.
Chief Minister Raut has also called on the federal government to provide VTM kits, required medical equipment, skilled manpower, among other resources for expanding the coverage of testing for coronavirus.
