A zoological park is to be constructed in the Baglung municipality in Baglung and the infrastructure it is said will be the model for the country.
The purpose of building the park is to conserve wildlife available in local community forests and to promote local tourism. The detailed project report had been already prepared and the Gandaki state government has, through the budget for upcoming fiscal year, allocated Rs 5 million to the municipality to begin the project, said State Assembly legislator Indra Lal Sapkota. The total cost of the project is over Rs 240 million.
Mayor Janakraj Poudel said the municipality has already secured the budget to kick start the project and the government has been requested for the allocation of further budget. The park will cover five community forests at Baglung wards no 5, 6 and 7. Architect Design and Civil Construction has won the contract for the construction of the project.
The infrastructure will be encircled by a three kilometre road, will have a walking track stretching to around two kilometres, a view tower, restro centre, a jungle management centre, a wildlife rescue facility and so on. Study suggests that community forests here are the habitat for several species of wildlife.
