The Khaptad National Park Trek offers a peaceful escape into nature, with rolling meadows, dense forests, and spiritual sites in western Nepal.

Khaptad National Park, located in far-western Nepal, is a hidden treasure for nature lovers and trekkers seeking tranquility away from crowded trails. Spanning four districts—Bajhang, Bajura, Achham, and Doti—the park covers an area of 225 square kilometers and sits at an altitude of around 3,000 meters. It is named after Khaptad Baba, a spiritual saint who meditated here for many years.

The trek to Khaptad is a perfect blend of nature, culture, and spirituality. As you walk through lush forests of rhododendron, pine, and oak, you’ll hear birds chirping and might spot animals like deer and langurs. The park is home to more than 270 bird species and diverse wildlife, making it a haven for bird watchers and nature enthusiasts.

One of the highlights of this trek is the stunning Khaptad Plateau, a vast grassland that turns into a colorful carpet of flowers during spring and summer. The views are breathtaking, with rolling meadows stretching under the blue sky. Another must-visit spot is the Khaptad Baba Ashram, a peaceful place that holds spiritual significance. Many visitors come here to meditate and enjoy the calm surroundings.

The trek also takes you to beautiful sites like the Triveni—a sacred place where three rivers meet. Locals believe bathing here cleanses sins, and during Ganga Dashahara, pilgrims gather to celebrate. For those seeking panoramic mountain views, the trek to Khaptad Daha, a serene lake, offers a peaceful retreat.

The best time to visit Khaptad is during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when the weather is pleasant, and the skies are clear. The trek is moderately challenging and suitable for both beginners and experienced trekkers. Comfortable shoes, warm clothes, and basic camping gear are essential since accommodations are limited to simple lodges or homestays in nearby villages.

Trekking in Khaptad is about experiencing the culture of far-western Nepal. You’ll pass through traditional villages, where locals warmly welcome you with their unique customs and traditions.
