Globally spread non-profitable organization ‘The Clothing Bank’, established by 100’s Group has tasted a slice of success in Nepal after four years of its establishment. This non-profitable organization has been collecting used clothes since the last four years by keeping open cloth stations in and around the valley along with some major cities of Nepal.
On December 17, ‘A Walk For Warmth’ was successfully organised at Kathmandu Marriott Hotel by the youths spearheading the 100’s Group, designers from three different institutes, various notable Nepali models and personalities.
‘A Walk For Warmth’ is a charity event; a fashion show where old donated clothes are used to make new wearables. The vision of the event was ‘share clothes, share warmth, share love, save life’. The event was not just about collecting clothing items, it was also about spreading awareness among people about the shared culture of clothes. The group has targeted to help pregnant woman, elders and children of the Bara district by providing them with mattresses and blankets made out of those collected clothes.
The death toll of people due to cold is increasing day by day in Nepal. So youths are volunteering from different parts of the country to spread warmth to people who are in need. Every year, the group donates blankets and mattresses in various parts of the country. “Sharing foods spreads love then why do we hesitate to share clothes” is the sentiment shared by many of the group members.
A group of 9 models choreographed by Prashant Tamrakar ramped in the floor of Kathmandu Marriott Hotel, wearing the re-designed clothes which were collected. Coordinator of the organization, Avini Dixit clarified that the event was a non-profitable charity and all the models and team members were volunteering in the event. The team of Marriott also said that they will keep a notifiable container in the hotel so that guests can also donate clothes. The event was followed by a fantastic cocktail dinner.
