Soaltee Crowne Plaza brings their annual Punjabi food festival alive with gusto

The annual Punjabi food festival, ‘Happy Singh Da Dhaba’ hosted by Soaltee Crowne Plaza, Kathmandu, starting November 22 is an ongoing promotion until December 7 at the Garden Terrace. Guests from the Indian Embassy, corporate invitees along with in-house guests were present for the inauguration.

The evening commenced with His Excellency Shri Manjeev Singh Puri, the Ambassador of India to Nepal, cutting the red ribbon for the inauguration of the festival. As popular and catchy Punjabi music played in the background, and guests began mingling and bonding over the wonderful start to the night, some took up the opportunity to try some beats on the traditional Punjabi drum, known as the dhol, creating low toned echoes throughout the venue.

The colourful, warm and cultural ambience lured in guests immediately as they stepped foot into the venue. Arrays of ornate and colourfully decorated street side-like stalls welcomed guests, offering a variety of delicious dhaba, street-food styled Punjabi food. Alongside Executive Chef, Yubaraj Pokharel, all the way from Ludhiana, Chandigarh, expert chef Rajinder Singh Paul was invited to incorporate his authentic, cultural style of Punjabi cuisine.

The aroma of the mixture of spices sizzling in oil and butter filled the air, creating excitement among all guests, ready to try the new and much-awaited cuisine. Many of the veg and non-veg dishes were cooked in what is called the Punjabi Tandoor, a traditional clay oven for an authentic, tasty touch: from tender chicken and mutton sizzling barbeque to spicy, vibrant biryani; to refreshing, palate-cleansing side salads, the food was a hit! Of course, desserts were not missed out on. Mouthwatering delicacies such as freshly made yoghurt, dense barfi and other Indian sweets, along with traditional tea were offered.

The night captured a glimpse of the Punjabi culture here in Nepal and ended as guests had their last bites of the delectable Punjabi food, feeling full of wonderful food, and also full of culture and tradition. Don’t miss out on this fun-filled opportunity to be exposed to a rich culture and its authentic food.
