The road being built to link Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality of Kaski’s center has been idle for a considerable amount of time.

Work on the road started four years ago under the construction plan of the Gandaki state government to connect the state capital to the center of the local municipality, but now it has stalled.

Locals are angry after the construction company did not work on the scheduled time. As the road construction is not completed on time, the locals are forced to travel on dusty roads in winter and muddy roads in the dry season. On Monday, the local residents of Lahachok submitted a memorandum to the rural municipality with the demand to start the road connecting the rural municipality immediately. They have said that if the work does not start within five days, they will start the second phase of the protest.

A contract agreement was signed with Himdung Thokar GSR JV for the construction of five km of black paper road from the entrance of Machhapuchchha to Mardipul through Bhiraktera, Banetakur to the rural municipality with an investment of Rs.20 crores.

Village Vice President Sita Adhikari pledged to take initiative with the construction company and the state government to start work on that road a long time. From Panpate Chautara in Bhiraktera through Valabot Shuklagandaki to Danda and from Valabot to Tuse, the main road to the village remains blocked.

“The road work that was supposed to be finished a year and a half ago, has been delayed due to the delay of the construction company. Road work has been stopped for a long time. Even though it has been a long time since the road was constructed and the base was laid, the black paperwork has not started.” Said, locals.

“The people were suffering when the construction company delayed the construction of the road connecting the village. All the work on that road is stopped now. We have raised our voices many times to complete the road as soon as possible, but there has been no response”, said the official.

"We have been saddened that the main road around the village has been closed for a long time. In the first phase, we have submitted a memorandum to the rural municipality saying that the rural municipality and the provincial government should exert pressure." Said officials.

“The main road has been delayed even though the two paved roads, which were contracted later than the road connecting the rural villages, were completed two years ago.” Said Deepak Adhikari of Lahachok Bhirkatera._Rss
