Kanchanpur District Administration Office allow stranded Nepalis to return home through Gaddachauki transit

The Kanchanpur District Administration Office has decided to rescue Nepalis stranded in India due to the ongoing lockdown enforced to stem the spread of coronavirus pandemic.

A meeting of the District Security Committee held on Sunday decided to allow stranded Nepalis to come to Nepal through the Gaddachauki transit by completely sealing off other transit points. They will have to undergo health examination before entering Nepal.

Around 70 thousand citizens had entered the country through Gaddachauki transit point as of May 22. They had come from various cities in India. People have been still sneaking into Nepal in Chandani Dodhara, Brahmadev, Belauri and Punarbas among other areas as the Nepal-India border was sealed off since the announcement of the lockdown.

"The decision has been made to rescue Nepali citizens and bring them home through Gaddachauki transit in a systematic manner after many Nepalis were stranded at the no-man's land on the Nepal-India border," Kanchanpur Chief District Officer Nurhari Khatiwada said. According to him, all preparations have been made for this purpose including medical examination and security at Gaddachauki.

A team of health workers and doctors would carry out health check of the people entering through the transit while the Armed Police Force and Nepal Police personnel will ensure systematic entry of people. More and more Nepalis have been coming to the border from various places of India after the resumption of railway service there. They are stranded at the border and facing various problems, it is said.

Similarly, the District Administration Office Kanchanpur has decided to close all services except the medical and pharmacies until another notice citing increased risk of COVID-19.
