State-1 has categorised three types of risk zones of COVID-19 in the state. A recent state level Crisis Management Centre (CMC) meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sherdhan Rai decided to do so. Three risk zones have been named as high risk zones, risk zones and normal zones respectively.
The Crisis Management Center meeting of the state-1 has also decided to conduct daily 1000 PCR tests in the state. This would be a five-fold increase from its ongoing average daily PCR tests of around 200 from government-owned laboratories of Dharan and Biratnagar. Currently, Dharan-based B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Biratnagar-based Koshi Zonal Hospital and Avian Disease Investigation Laboratory are testing 100, 80 and 20 swab samples respectively on an average daily. ''We have came up with the decision to carry out around 40,000 PCR tests in the state,'' informed Chief Minister Sherdhan Rai, adding that the state government would target migrant workers who return from India and three categories of risk zones specified by Crisis Management Center of the state-1.
The meeting has also decided to increase COVID-19 beds in the state. Hundred beds would be set up at Koshi Zonal Hospital, 200 beds each in Jhapa and Purbanchal University Hospital of Gothgaun, Morang, 300 in BPKIHS of Dharan, 300 beds in Krishnadash Ashram of Chatara of Sunsari and 50 beds in a Military Hospital of Itahari,'' informed CM Sherdhan Rai. He added, ''We are working on a war footing to deal with possible outbreak.''
The meeting has also decided to set up various holding areas for the management of the imminent inflows of Nepali migrant workers returning from India. ''We have devised strategy to make holding areas with the capacity to adjust 15,000 migrant workers coming in from India,'' shared CM Rai, ''For this, we are constructing facilities in Ilam, Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari.'' CM Rai said State-1 government has been constructing 2000 beds in Ilam, 4000 each in Sunsari and Jhapa as well as 5000 in Morang.
