Nepal embraced the vibrant and colorful 'Sinulog' Festival, originally celebrated on the third Sunday of January during the annual Feast of Sto Niño in Cebu City, Philippines. This festival, which narrates the story of the Filipino people's transition from pagan traditions to Christianity through dance rituals, has made its way to Nepal.
The inaugural Sinulog experience in Nepal was organized by Cebu Fiesta, the only Filipino restaurant in Kathmandu, on February 17, 2024, at the Basketball Court, Jhamsikhel. The event featured stalls showcasing Filipino food and vendors supporting the festival. Mr. Subin Shrestha, Officer of the Consulate General of the Republic of the Philippines, represented Hon. Suraj Vaidya, the Honorary Consul General, at the event. Dr. Anil Shakya, husband of Cebu Fiesta owner Dr. Sharon Shakya, delivered the opening remarks.
