The asthidhatu, a sacred relic of Lord Buddha, which was previously only displayed on Buddha Jayanti, can now be viewed on any regular day in Lumbini. The bone fragment is considered to be one of the most sacred relics of Lord Buddha and is kept on display for five days leading up to Buddha Purnima, which celebrates his birth on May 5th.
Visitors and devotees can view the asthidhatu at the Nawa Maitri Mahabir Bihar, where a stupa has been built to house the relic. The display is open from 8 am to 5 pm, allowing pilgrims to catch a glimpse of the sacred relic at their convenience. The President of the International Buddhist Society, Monk Mahasthabir, shared that he was previously only aware of the asthidhatu being displayed at Aanandakuti in Nepal, but this year it has been made available for public viewing permanently.
Ten sets of astidhatu, including two gifted from Sri Lanka and eight others from the Dhammakaya Foundation, have been made available for devotees to offer obeisance. The asthidhatu is highly secured and decorated as a golden flower for display.
Visitors, including Buddhist Guru Buddha Ratna from the Maharashtra State of India, have expressed gratitude for the opportunity to view the sacred relic. He shared that the asthidhatu serves as a testimony to the existence of Lord Buddha and attracts Buddhist devotees from around the world. With the asthidhatu now available for public viewing every day, it is expected to further increase its appeal to devotees in the future._Rss
