Nepali Spring Festival 2023 is being celebrated in the capital city of Cairo on Saturday organized by the Nepali Embassy in Egypt. In the event, which started with a welcome dance performance by Nepali children, Omar Samra, the first Everest climber from Egypt, gave a speech about his experience while climbing Everest, describing the diversity and richness of Nepali art, culture, and tradition.
Sharif Obald, another Mt Everest climber, while describing Nepal's unique place for adventure sports, discussed that such sports play an important role in keeping people physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy, according to the Nepali Embassy in Egypt.
Such programs are necessary to strengthen people-to-people relations between the two countries. Khusbu Gupta, who works at the World Health Organization in Cairo, gave an experimental presentation with yoga practice, discussing the contribution of Yogbhumi Nepal to the improvement of the yoga system. Former ambassador Abdul Fatteh read the Arabic translation of the poem 'Ghansi' written by the great poet Lakshmi Prasad Devkota.
Similarly, another former ambassador of Egypt to Nepal, Imam Mustafa, discussed the bilateral relations between Nepal and Egypt. Amit Dhungel, who works at the United Nations Population Fund in Cairo, said that this program will be very useful to introduce the cultural heritage of Nepal to Egypt.
He pointed out that there is a lot of potentials to encourage Egyptian citizens to visit Nepal by continuing the tourism promotion activities in the coming days. In addition to Nepalese cultural dance performances, a color festival was celebrated on the occasion of Phagupurnima. More than one hundred people including ambassadors and diplomats of different countries in Cairo, journalists, businessmen, students, and other special people participated in the program.
On this occasion, the Nepali flag, Pashupatinath temple and Buddha statue, rhinoceros, elephant, karuva, mukhundo, khukuri, peacock eye window, singing bowl, madal, murchunga and decorative materials of Dhaka were displayed and various artifacts and handicrafts reflecting Nepali original art and culture were displayed. In addition, brochures and posters related to Nepal's tourism promotion were distributed and informative audio-visuals about Nepal produced by the Nepal Tourism Board were also presented.
