The first ascent of the season has been achieved on Dhaulagiri Mountain, the seventh-highest peak in the world. Two Polish climbers, Bartek Ziemski and Oswald Rodrigo Pereria, successfully reached the summit of the 8,167-meter peak at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday without the assistance of Sherpa guides. This remarkable achievement marks the beginning of the climbing season on Dhaulagiri.
According to Thaneswor Guragai, the managing director of Seven Summit Trek, a total of 35 climbers, including 24 males and 11 females, have obtained permission for the Dhaulagiri expedition this season. Among them, Seven Summit Trek has facilitated the expeditions of 26 climbers.
Dhaulagiri, located in Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-4 in Myagdi district, witnessed its first ascent on May 13, 1960, by Austrian climber Kurt Diemberger, German climber Peter Diener, Swiss climber Ernst Forrer, Albin Schelbert, and Sherpa guides Nawang Dorje and Nima Dorje.
