The Chhimkeshwori Temple in Tahanu district is undergoing development to attract religious tourists. Positioned in Ambukhaireni rural municipality-2, it has become a draw for visitors from the district and nearby areas. Accessible via a 15-kilometer jeep ride from Ambhukhaireni on the Prithvi Highway to Labdi, followed by a short trek, the temple offers breathtaking views of prominent peaks like Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Manaslu, and Buddha, making it a magnet for tourists seeking scenic beauty.
With around 50 to 100 visitors daily, and as many as 5,000 devotees on special occasions like Fagu Poornima, the temple has significantly boosted domestic tourism, as noted by Krishna Tamang, Chair of the Chhimkeshwori Tourism Development Committee. The temple, dedicated to Goddess Chhimkeshwori, is believed to grant wishes when worshipped, attracting devotees not only from nearby districts but also from Lamjung, Gorkha, and Chitwan.
Recently reconstructed with financial aid from the Gandaki Province government, the temple has been included among 110 tourist destinations by the province. The government allocated Rs 4.5 million for its reconstruction, which also involved the construction of a trail and railing. Local authorities, including Ambukhaireni rural municipality, are actively involved in promoting and developing the temple further.
Additionally, efforts are underway to improve accessibility, with blacktopping of roads leading to the temple already in progress. To accommodate tourists, homestay services have been introduced downhill, with locals from Hilekharka offering indigenous cuisines to visitors, ensuring a memorable experience for those exploring the religious and natural wonders of the area.
