Two municipalities of Baglung are engaged in the campaign to make a child-friendly city. Galkot municipality started the campaign from last year and Baglung municipality started it from the current financial year.
“The campaign to make the city child-friendly has started from the school level. It has been started from schools and health institutions, and out of 51 indicators needed to become a child-friendly city, 12 education and 13 health indicators have been started from schools and health centres.” Said Purushottam Sapkota, chief administrative officer of Baglung Municipality.
“There are various programs going on in the community to complete the indicators. Our campaign for the construction of a child-friendly city is being carried out rapidly, we have started work for 12 education and 13 health indicators out of the 51 indicators required to become a child-friendly city at the school and health centre level.” Said sapkota.
“Baglung municipality will be made a child-friendly city. Since there are many schools in Baglung municipality, this campaign will be successful from the school level. The campaign is going on rapidly, it will be possible to declare a child-friendly city within a year.” Said Mayor, Basant Kumar Shrestha.
“Galkot municipality has also intensified the campaign. There are only some necessary infrastructure and indicators to be completed at the community level. We have started this campaign since last year, a lot of work has been done, now some work is left, we will finish it soon and we will declare it a child-friendly city by December.” Said City chief Bharat Sharma Gayre.
“The necessary infrastructure such as library, playground, toilet, water supply etc. has been built in the school to make it accessible to children. Work is being done to protect the immovable property of the school, to appoint mandatory information officers, to prevent teachers from going out without the approval of the principal, to make arrangements for the health of children, complete vaccination, sanitation and clean drinking water management at the school level.” Said Spokesperson of Galkot municipality and chairman and steward of ward No. 2
“Some schools here have built infrastructure so that female students can shower, change clothes and wear adequate sanitary pads. Only a little work is left to declare Galkot Child Friendly Nagar. Our campaign to make a child-friendly city has reached its final stage. It was supposed to be done by the end of October, but it could not be done because of the election. After the election, we will declare Galkot as a child-friendly city." Said Bhandari._Rss
