The New Year is upon us and if you are still searching for places to experience the city life, get prepared, pack your bags and inform your loved ones for a much needed outing. Take this time to surround yourself with nature this New Year.

 

Godawari

Godawari is one the places that is most loved by locals and tourists alike around Kathmandy Valley. Not only can you spend some quality time with your loved ones, it is a place where you can hike and enjoy a picnic around. Known for its rich biodiversity and splendid environment, it is also famous for its botanical garden and the Godavari temples; Kunda and Navadhara. It is located in Lalitpur. around 19 kilometers away from the capital which offers a quick escape into nature, while offering a rush of adrenaline while hiking around this serene location and its  religious sites. 

 

Shivapuri

Located on the northern fringe of the Kathmandu Valley is Shivapuri, resting beautifully at an elevation of 2,732 meters (8,963 ft). It spreads across three different districts; Kathmandu, Nagarkot, Sindhupalchowk, all within 159 kilometers square ( 61 square miles). It will take around two hours to drive to reach this spectacular place. Rich in flora and fauna, Shivapuri has many things to offer for nature lovers. Take a small visit into the National Park, viewing nature in its full glory. But be wary of the strict guidelines within the parameters of the preserved location.

 

One Tree Hill

A perfect place to enjoy a cozy family outing, spending time at One Tree Hill is a great way to countdown to the New Year. Located at the foot of the Nagarjun forest near Swoyambhu, One Tree Hill is one of the best viewpoints in the valley, offering a splendid panoramic view over the capital city. It is one of the closest locations from Kathmandu and will only take you about half an hour to reach. It is the perfect place to watch the sunrise or sunset whilst creating unforgettable memories with your loved ones. 

 

Sano Illam 

Enjoy the experience of Illam’s Tea garden without traveling halfway across the nation. Sano Illam or Everest Tea Garden is an ideal place for folks who want to experience strolling around the tea farm of Illam. Located in Jaisigaun, Sindhupalchowk and around 2 hours drive from the valley, it offers a majestic view of  hills, mountain ranges, and villages. The place is also a popular location for Paragliding from LapsiPhedi and is a great picnic spot. 

 

Sundarijal

 

Being within nature and taking a much needed break from the busy lifestyle of the city is one of the best ways to start one’s New Year. Sundarijal is located 15 kilometers northeast of Kathmandu Valley covering an area of 5.18 square kilometers. Because of the area’s natural environment, waterfalls and rivers, many tourists visit here every weekend. 

 

Budhanilkantha

 

Situated at the foot of Shivapuri hill, is the third largest city in the valley, Budhanilkantha. It is also home of one of the largest stone sculptures of Lord Vishnu in Nepal. The sculpture floats on the sea of bliss reclining upon the multi-headed snake Shesh Naag. It is believed that the 16-foot (5 meters) long sculpture is made from a single block of basalt. There are also many hiking trails, one of them being Bishnu Dwar which is getting more popular.
