Hindu god Biswakarma, who is revered as a celestial architect, is worshipped on the occasion of Biswakarma Puja.
Biswakarma Jayanti, also known as Biswakarma Puja, is a Hindu festival commemorating the Hindu god Biswakarma, who is revered as a celestial architect. He is also idolised as the creator of the world. For devotees of Hinduism, Biswakarma Jayanti is a special day.
He is also credited with assembling the sacred city of Dwarka, the capital of Krishna, the palace of the Pandavas, Indraprastha, and a myriad of exquisite weapons for the deities. He is also acknowledged as the divine carpenter and is credited with creating Sthapatya Veda, which comprises the science of architecture and mechanics and is also cited in the Rig Veda.
It is indeed fascinating to note that Biswakarma puja is not typically observed at just houses, but rather at workstations, public spaces, industries, mills, and offices. The engineering and architectural community, as well as artisans, craftsmen, mechanics, smiths, welders, industrial workers, factory employees, and others, celebrate the day of worship as a gesture of reverence. They pray to God for a prosperous future, stable working circumstances, and prosperity in their particular vocations prior to anything else. The efficient operation of innumerable machines is yet another wish of the workforce.
Biswakarma puja dates on the ‘Kanya Sankranti’ of Hindu calendar. Biswakarma puja is typically marked annually on the last day of the Indian Bhado month, which coincides between September 16 and September 18 on the Gregorian calendar. The festival is prominent in Nepal and Haldia, an industrial area in West Bengal.
